My 17-month-old son, Tommy, recently discovered penguins, so he was pretty keyed up to test out I-CY, Hasbro's "music companion." (Check out this post for other Hasbro music pets.) I-CY ($19.99) is a cute little thing that serves as a speaker for your MP3 player but also plays some of its own riffs, and dances and lights up to the beat. The box says it's for children 8 and older, but I figured there was no way Tommy could fit the whole bird in his mouth, so we were cool. As I expected, Tommy squealed happily as I-CY's belly lit up in all sorts of different colors, which apparently indicated that he was feeling good and happy. We plugged in our player to hear I-CY play some of Tommy's favorite tunes; the speaker won't be putting Klipsch or Bose out of business anytime soon, but the quality was good enough for this toddler. I-CY even sports a little attitude; if you ignore him for a while, he growls, sounding a little like Chewbacca. The growl sure got Tommy's attention from 10 feet away; he dropped the watermelon wedge he was eating and rushed over to pick up I-CY. Usually, nothing comes between my boy and his melon.
