If you've ever been lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis or the Aurora Australis, you know it's a truly impressive sight. Seeing the lights dancing against the sky is a memorable experience. Now, Japanese company Genso is hoping to bring that experience into your living room to a small degree with the Genso Kukan Aurora Projector. The projector sits on your desk and projects an image of the Aurora, in several brilliant colors, dancing across your wall or ceiling.
The projector uses LEDs and mirrors to generate the glowing lights and to "bend" the light so it appears to wave and swirl against the wall or ceiling, and can run for about 20 hours on the three AA batteries required to operate it. At the same time, the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRrxKlS8gkg) looks like the lights projected are pretty dim, so make sure the curtains are shut when you're using it. The project comes with a CD of soothing tunes to complete the effect. It's not quite the real thing, and definitely no replacement, but you can stay warm and toasty indoors and turn on the lights before bed, and folks who live in parts of the world where the lights don't reach can definitely enjoy a gadget like this. The projector is available to import for about $61. [via Technabob]
