My days as a slave forGamestop left me with soiled hands as I took candy from babies and gave then measly "game bucks" in return. Now, Gamestop looks to capitalize on the release of the Xbox 360 Elite by offering greater trade-in credit for those who still have an original premium, core or original Xbox.

Xbox 360 owners are now left with the dilemma of having to choose between sticking with their current 20GB Xbox 360 or sacrificing it to the trade-in gods and getting $250 instead of $190 towards the new 360 Elite. The premium and original Xbox are worth $200 and $50 respectively when they're traded back in.

After some dandy math and a phone call to an old co-worker, I managed to figure out that the deal only increases the trade-in value of Xbox 360 premium by $35 since the original trade-in value of $190 doesn't include the hard drive, which you would trade in separately for $25. While you could keep the hard drive with the original offer, the fine print on the new offer requires you to trade in the hard drive for the premium $250 deal (with a wired controller).

So those wanting to transfer files between systems may be out of luck (I especially pity those with giant Oblivion saves) but it you really have your eyes set on a new Xbox 360 Elite, it's either Gamestop or EBay. The offer ends 5/27 so at least you have time to mull over this life altering decision. [via Kotaku]
