LatitudeSSD Welcome to the No Spin Zone, as Dell likes to call it. The company, now back under Michael Dell's supervision, is adding a 32GB SSD option to the Latitude D420 and Latitude ATG D620. SSD, or solid state drives, have been slowly making their way into the mainstream, especially in the ultraportable category. The list of SSD fanboys include Fujitsu, Sony, and Samsung, so far, and now Dell is taking the leap of faith.

It makes perfect sense to put in in the D420, an ultraportable business laptop that weighs a mere 3.7 pounds. The 14-inch ATG D620 will be the largest laptop to house such a drive. We would object if this was any other midrange laptop, but the durability and longevity of the SSD drives, combined with the toughness of an ATG laptop, will likely result in a happy marriage. Dell will eventually roll out SSD options across other Latitudes, but like all SSD yielding laptops, price will become a factor. A 32GB SSD option will run you $549.
