After first introducing the Axim Pocket PC in 2002, Dell is now saying that they're going to stop selling its Axim line of handhelds and isn't going to be offering any new products in the category. Although the Axim served to lower Pocket PC prices across the board, personal organizers face increasing competition from smart phones that include calendar and contact functions.
Mobility Site noted the fall of the Axim earlier and lamented the loss of this useful and cost friendly device. We'll see where Dell goes from here but they're quick to point out that they still sell handhelds from other makers from its website as another PDA bites the dust. [via CNET]

That's kind of sad, the Axim was a pretty solid handheld, and as the prices went down I knew a lot of people who went out on a limb and picked them up.
I guess now that Mr. Dell himself is back at the helm, they're going to cut costs and head back to their core competencies - making computers. ;)
