Corrected.
Many of AT&Tingular's PDA-phones work around the world, but up until now, accessing the Internet abroad on your phone has been a scary prospect. In most countries, you were charged $19.50 per megabyte, which adds up really fast.
So this week A/C introduced some new plans that will appeal to global travelers. The Smartphone Connect Global and PDA Connect Global plans essentially give you 20MB of international data per month at an additional $25/month -- that's $1.25 per megabyte. Alas, you'll still be charged the insane $19.50/MB rate if you go over your 20MB allowance, so count your bits. A Cingular rep pointed out to me that they charge $5/MB in most of western Europe, India, China, Japan, Hong Kong and some other popular destinations. The $19.50/MB charge is for other countries. Definitely check with Cingular before you go.
Frequent international travelers on AT&Tingular should get the Blackberry Pearl or 8800 as their data device. AT&Tingular's BlackBerry International data plan is the only one with unlimited, included international data use, and it's only $70/month.
