Like any good mechanical engineer, Russell Jones saw opportunity in misfortune. So when the rubber keychain ring on his Corsair 1-Gbyte USB Flash Drive broke, instead of simply banishing it to his workshop for non-portable use, Jones decided to create something a bit more...resilient. And this is how the aluminum-plated indestructible USB drive was born.
Jones stripped the external rubber casing and began drawing up plans. Lo and behold, a few days later, he had himself one durable-looking drive. Jones claims that the project cost him about $20 clams. So what's next for this reinforced USB drive? He wants to get the thing anodized, naturally, so he can personalize it a bit more with laser engraving.

Very nice and practical. But how many of us have a machine shop at our disposal. If I wasn't retired, I could do it, but alas, The good life is here and being retired leaves lots of time to make things....but NO machine shop
