Venture Vehicles has announced the development of a 3-wheeled, tilting, plug-in hybrid, dubbed the VentureOne.
Venture built the vehicle's titling technology around Carver Engineering's patented Dynamic Vehicle Control. This technology allows the body of the vehicle to tilt when making tight corners while all three wheels maintain firm contact with the road, which gives the vehicle the agility of a motorcycle with the performance of a sports car. According to Ian Bruce, founding partner of Venture Vehicles, driving the VentureOne is like "flying a jet fighter at two feet off the ground."
The company plans on offering two propulsion packages: the hybrid E50 and Q100, and the all-electric Venture EV. Both models will have an all-electric range of nearly 200 miles, with electric pancake motors in the rear wheels of the hybrid model allowing the combustion engine to provide on-road recharging. For off-road recharging, you'd simply plug it into a normal 110-volt outlet. The two-passenger vehicle will get fuel mileage of 100 mpg and a top speed of 100 mph, with a 0-60 acceleration of 6 seconds.
Production is scheduled for late 2008. The all-electric model will sell for $23,000 while the E50 and Q100 hybrid models will sell for $18,000 and $20,000 respectively.
