The Optimus 103 keyboard has been a long time coming, and it looks like it may be longer still. At least now it has a swanky new name, Optimus Maximus (as in the god of gods, Jupiter) and will be even more expensive than the original price tag of $1,200. The keyboard itself will only have a lifespan of 5 years, depending on use and all the keys are receiving the OLED treatment. They 32 x 32 keys also remain stationary and you'd put a plastic cap over them that execute the key-press mechanic.
ExtremeTech first covered the smaller OLED keyboard design Art. Lebedev Studio was working on last year, in the form of the Optimus Mini Three Keypad. Since then, many more keys have been added but if the price of the Optimus Maximus is too much for some, they are developing keyboards with fewer programmable keys for a more amiable price tag. Guess we'll just have to wait till the end of the year - when they plan to deliver the keyboard - to see if it can live up to the hype. [via Engadget]

I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to the Optimus Maximus. I'm sure they'll get it out, but looking like it's going to EXCEED the $1200 price tag? Yikes. Only the die hardest of die hards are going to wind up buying one then, and something tells me it won't be available at your average electronics store.
Maybe you guys might get one for a review someday? That'd be pretty cool! ;)
