Ever wish you could ride with your favorite NASCAR driver, or listen to the conversations between a driver and their crew chief? During the Daytona 500, NASCAR fans were able to do all these things, thanks to 18 trailers and trucks connected by more than 100,000 feet of fiber optic cable. The first technology offered to NASCAR fans is DirecTV's HotPass, where you can "feel" what it's like to be inside a race car by viewing multiple race car camera angles, listen to in-car audio, and view real-time stats. If you're at the track, Sprint Nextel offers FanView ($4.95/month), a scanner that offers audio, video, and real-time statistics of drivers. And if you dig 3-D, NASCAR.COM offers TrackPass RaceView ($12.95/month), a 3-D application in which fans can watch race data (including speed and time behind leader) on their computer screen and follow a specific driver live as they make their way around the track. You can also get three race views for each driver, including Lead View (the front of the driver's car), Flyover View (an aerial view), and Draft View (showing what's behind the car).
The coolest feature is the NASCAR.com To Go with PitCommand, a Sprint service that lets you listen to driver-crew conversations on your cell phone. The drivers may want to watch what they say then! [via RecordOnline]
