I'm one of those individuals that appreciate using a device for solely one purpose. I'd like my music player to jam with, a cell phone that gets clear reception and a portable game system to just have fun. Sure, I wouldn't mind having all those functions in one unit but the holy grail of an all-in-one electronic device has yet to be fully realized. Smart phones come close, and Apple's iPhone brings its own set of promises but in the meantime, Mach Speed is offering a lower priced alternative for those who want it all right now.
The Trio TV5 tries jamming just about every form of media compact device that sports a 2.5" inch screen. Mach Speed's website touts the versatility and functionality of their device and it's a mouthful to be sure. Video recording, music playing, picture taking and voice recording all seems like standard fare. It has a 5 megapixel camera and you can transfer video from your TV. And if you don't have headphones it even has a speaker as well.
Aside from the inevitable "jack of all trades, master of none" conclusion one may draw, its limited storage capacity may keep this device from realizing its full potential. With an internal storage of only 512 MB and a built-in SD card expandability slot that only supports up to 2GB, it might be handy but not practical. Still, at only $109 from Amazon - Mach Speed's Trio TV5 can satisfy all those media roles at only a fraction of the cost.
