Fujitsu has announced a 7,200-rpm, 2.5-inch hard drive for notebook PCs, which is designed to give users of virtual machines and other high-performance applications a bit more performance to play around with.
The 160-GB MHW2160BJ also includes a serial ATA 3.0-Gbit interface. The new drives will be available at the end of May.
These drives aren't for the traveling salesman, who needs just basic PowerPoint capabilities, e-mail, and light Web browsing. The new Fujitsus are for those who spend upwards of $2,000 on the "desktop replacement" notebooks from Alienware and other manufacturers, who are interested in the highest possible performance, whatever the price. Acoustic noise is 2.5 bels at idle, which Fujitsu ranks as "best in class".
Unfortunately, for those interested in the prices of the new Fujitsu drives--they aren't yet listed.
