computer huntingFor the most part, technology has made our lives safer and easier. But, it has also made us lazy and question ethics, particularly in the following case. "Pay-per-view slaughter" is a term coined by the Humane Society of the United States in regards to a technology that allows people to stalk online and kill prey. I'm not talking about a computer game; this technology enables hunters to kill deer and other animals with a computer, Web camera, rifle, and a remote control, without ever having to leave their house or spend money on camouflage.

This fiasco first began in 2005 when "an entrepreneur from Texas, John Lockwood, set up a Web site that allowed subscribing hunters with a high-speed computer connection to shoot antelope, wild pigs and other game on his 220-acre San Antonio spread via remote control -- from anywhere." The most distrubing part is that Lockwood offered to mail the animals' heads to his subscribers. Since then, many states have chosen to outlaw the practice, including Texas and Missouri.

To counteract the issue, Lockwood believes that the technology could aid the disabled who can't go outside and hunt. Do you agree with Lockwood, or should all states ban hunting from your computer?

This does pose a very difficult question. I am not that concerned about the hunting remotely, sure it's incredibly lazy, but it's still hunting. My concern is in the saftey issues raised by hooking up a gun to a remote control and then letting anyone with a cedit card take control of that gun and start shooting. I mean say that out loud and tell me it sounds like a good idea.

Hey thanks department of defence. You will let hunters grab pray from a safty distance of ONLINE, but we cant post this tech in Iraq so we can protect our perimiters from our Air conditioned tents while playing with our myspace accounts. What a crop. I say give this guy a defence contract and save a soldier from a terrorist.
