small-dmc.jpg Yes, it's true: you can get DMC, the 1980s-era rap legend, for only a single C-note! No, the DMC photo is because he was at the Casio G'zOne "launch party" at the One bar in Manhattan last night. Yes, the indestructible, waterproof G'zOne has been out for several months now - but Casio's new to the cell phone scene in the US, and it's taken them a little while to spin up their marketing turbines.

The existing G'zOne, which I love - it's the nation's only waterproof phone - is now $99.99 with contract from Verizon, a joyous drop from its former $349 price. And more G'zOne models are coming, I've heard. See more glamor photos (of fashion models, not cell phone models) after the jump.

What's a launch party without an ice sculpture?

Models stood around the party showing off G'zOne phones in trays and trying to get the beautiful-people crowd interested.

The guest of honor was motocross bike rider Carey Hart, who you might also know of because he's married to pop star Pink. He said he loved the G'zOne - and he's the prime market, which is folks who tend to be a bit rough on their phones.

my husband has it at the orig price for several mos now when it first came out - was a gift to him since he works in automotive field (rebuilding engines) and all his phones broke in one form or another (humidity, vibrations, dirt, dust, grime and accidents hitting machinery) this phone has been thru the ringer and still looks brand new! He loves it - has saved us $ since he was getting a new phone every few months completely recommend it!

What's the matter? Are neither of you smart enough to know to get insurance on a $350 telephone.Sheesh,if you are no smarter than that, how do you figure out how to use them?

reynaldo, you obviously don't kill many phones. I am a firefighter and I destroy cell phones like it's my destiny to do so. VZW insurance only replaces two phones per year and charges a $50 deductible each time - if you have a rugged job or lifestyle, or are just plain clumsy, you probably go through more than two phones a year. I am planning on making Casio's new phone my next purchase!

There is definitely a market for a tough/waterproof cell phone. The best insurance is if the phone doesn't break in the first place.
