For those who want an electric car but can't afford one, Jeffery Automotive has introduced an easy step-by-step instruction manual to build your own electric vehicle. With basic woodworking skills and $5,000 (or even less) to invest in parts, you can be whipping around town in your own homemade electric car in no time.
The DIY vehicle is a two-seater, powered by a 72-volt DC motor with an anticipated top speed of 60 mph and a range of 50 to 60 miles on one charge from six 12-volt deep cycle lead/acid batteries. The plans include detailed photographs and drawings to help the builder at every stage of construction, with further backup provided at Electric Cars Plans.
The car was designed to meet the growing demand from drivers concerned about global warming and looking for a fossil-fuel-free, environmentally friendly vehicle. With relatively cheap construction costs and running costs of less than 3 cents a mile, this vehicle would be pretty friendly on your wallet as well, perfect for short commutes or electric joy-riding fun. You can pre-order the instructions through the Web site for the 50-percent-discounted price of $64.50 until March 31st.
