Physical activity and sunlight are two things that hardcore gamers are often viewed as lacking, with dark and damp basements being the habitat of choice. Sunlight and video gamers may yet have a chance to meet with the solar powered Wii.

The folks from Tom's Hardware embarked on a DIY adventure that would convert the Nintendo Wii into a solar powered wonder for those hot days of summer. This Wii isn't the only thing powered by the sunlight though, as the console, TV and speakers all benefit from the alternative energy source. The solar panel even works in conjunction with a battery to provide 6-8 hours of game time on a cloudy day.

Weird smelling basements could give way to the great outdoors. However, you'd have to worry about accidentally throwing the Wiimote over the fence and into a neighbor's backyard. [via 1Up]

Now THAT'S cool. I could definitely see rolling that puppy out onto the porch and playing some wii golf in the morning sunshine. 8am tee time, anyone? :D

Or maybe get some friends together for a barbeque and get their game on so people aren't just bored and drinking waiting for the burgers to cook!

I'm sure that I'd be the first one to drop delicious BBQ sauce on the screen. Still, I live near the Turnpike in New Jersey so I'm not quite sold on the wisdom in playing games outside...
