I was never very good at figuring out the Rubik's Cube. Heck, there are 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible configurations! Can you believe that it's been around for over 20 years already? Well, 2007 marks the debut of the next generation Rubik's Cube. From Hong Kong-based company Techno Source comes the Rubik's Revolution. It's the interactive version of the Rubik's Cube, with six built-in games including Light Speed, Rapid Recharge, Pattern Panic, Cube Catcher, Code Cracker, and Multiplayer Madness. Suited for individual play or multi-player gaming, the Rubik's Revolution is completely different in design. Instead of moving the blocks around, each side of the cube has a hollowed square that contains a button.
A company rep demonstrated the Light Speed mode, where you keep rolling the cube around until you see one of the blocks light up. When you press the lighted block, another one will light. The idea is to keep finding the lighted blocks while they light up faster each time. You'll get a point for each lighted block you press. Just how many points can one accumulate? Well, the rep told me that so far, he's gotten 793 points! Parents will be happy to know that the latest Rubik's cube has a 4-way volume control so as not to be too distracting! The Rubik's Revolution will be available at major retailers in the Summer of 2007 for just $19.99.

I had a chance to play this at ToyFair last week. I really liked it, and I think that the fact there is no puzzle to solve, will appeal to lots of people. For $20 I think it's worth it, and very entertaining. You can preorder one at
