barbie jam with me electronic guitar.jpgAt this year's Toy Fair, I met with KIDdesigns to see the company's upcoming product lines of American Idol, Barbie, Spiderman, and Transformers products.

Since I'm a HUGE fan of American Idol, I was excited to get a demo of the "American Idol" Talent Challenge (May release, $49.99). Choose which song you want to sing, and one of the previous Idol contestants will perform a song from the actual show. It's your job to sing to the best of your ability. Then ask your friends how you should be rated from numbers 1 through 9. Judges Paula, Randy, and Simon will give you the lowdown on your performance. The DVD includes 12 songs with and without vocals from the show.

Another fun toy is the Spider-Man Knows You Learning PC (May release, $59.99). With ten learning zones and 60 activities, kids can defeat villains while Spider-Man gives his encouragement. The game is also personal, since Spider-Man knows you by name, birthday, and other ways.

Check out some of the other upcoming products from KIDdesigns.

In the KIDdesigns booth, I entered a room full of Barbie products. Of particular note is the Barbie "Hug N' Heal" Pet Doctor (May release, $29.99) and the Barbie Jam with Me Electric Guitar (May, $39.99). The Hug N' Heal is an interactive pet with pressure sensitive switches in the head, back and paws. It's up to Barbie to feed and take care of the pet. The pet makes barking, panting, yelping, and chewing sounds.

The Barbie Jam with Me Electric Guitar lets you connect your MP3 player by placing it in the dock right on the guitar. Jam to your favorite music or the music included on the two cartridges. Play modes consist of guitar free play, karaoke hits, and a Jamming feature that plays special chords.

The Transformers Trans-Portable Power Center (July release, $29.99) teaches kids math, spelling, logic, and memory games. There are six learning zones with 36 activities to choose from, including Hangman and Word Jumble. The S.M.A.R.T. chip technology will adjust quiz levels that are suited for each child.

When these products near their release dates, we'll post images.
