When extreme laziness and drunken ideas meet, hilarity ensues. This, if nothing else, I learned in college. So when I heard about a mini fridge that's the perfect size for a dorm room and also has a clear acrylic trebuchet built on top with a 10-beer can automatic magazine that it draws ammunition from, I was interested. At times I'm lazy and I like the occasional frosty beverage, so I might be the perfect candidate for the Beer Launching Fridge. That is, until I saw the fridge in action.
Indeed, the beer (Miller Lite is used in the video--ick!) is loaded into the trebuchet from a 10-can magazine built into the fridge that keeps the beer cold while waiting to be loaded. A car's keyless entry remote was rewired to serve as the controller for the launcher itself, turning the launcher from side to side for perfect accuracy. The beer is loaded, the recipient aims the launcher, and presses the panic button to launch the cold beer across the room and straight into their waiting arms. This all sounds cool, but if you've ever caught a cold can of beer, you'd be worried--they make dangerous projectiles! At the same time, I wouldn't just immediately open that can of beer when it lands, unless you enjoy spraying foamy, carbonated beer all over the living room. Okay, so it's not exactly a practical gadget. But that doesn't make it any less interesting, or any less fun to watch, or any less great an invention. Still, I'd be wary of flying cans of beer. Watch the Beer Launching Fridge in action.
