universal%20drive%20adapter.jpgOne reason why most people put off hard drive upgrades is that transferring information is even more time consuming and difficult than backing up! Typically you'd have to burn to a CD-ROM or move content to another PC, then transfer it back to PC's new hard drive. NewerTech is making the process a little closer to plug and play with their USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter ($24.95), which actually sold out at the recent MacWorld show in San Francisco. Apparently Mac users must be upgrading their hard drives a lot.

The device essentially lets you connect the swapped-out drive to the PC via USB 2.0. No software is required for Mac users (those running OS 8.6 or higher anyway), but PC users will have to install Windows based drivers. We did say it was almost plug and play!

VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter is essentially the same thing and requires no drivers when plugged into Win XP (drivers for Win98 included on CD with product if needed)

For those with SATA drives there are solutions for that as well: SABRENT 5-in-1
