DataBreaker Internet security device

If you're like me, you don't often shut down your computer, for fear that you'll suddenly need to listen to the Justin Timberlake album you've just downloaded. But the problem is that the longer your PC is on and connected to the Internet, the greater the risk of hackers breaking through your many hardy walls of Internet security.

DataBreaker offers an extra layer of fortification. Just plug the $39.95 device into your power outlet and connect it to your PC and broadband modem--no software needed. It'll then cut off your Internet connection whenever it senses your computer going into sleep mode, and then reconnect upon your return.

There's no question that disconnecting your PC from the Web when not in use adds a measure of security, but you could still do it manually. The DataBreaker just makes life easier, much like how a remote control saves you from getting up to turn the TV on or off.

Of course, one of the reasons I keep my computer on is to let those lengthy album downloads continue while I'm away. So I guess it's a question of priorities: hook up the DataBreaker and decrease the risks of always-on Internet, or download Justin and bring sexy back that much sooner. UPDATE: Hooray; the DataBreaker actually has an override switch if you want to keep the Web going for a long download. They thought of everything. Sorry for the error!

Wow! Very very cool, especially for people who leave their machines on but don't have a thriving home network or anything. (like my parents!) I don't know how much use it would be for people with lots of computers in their homes, but for the person with broadband who likes instant access to their machine without having to start it up and wait, it looks pretty cool!

Does your computer not turnoff the ethernet adapter when it goes into sleep mode? I think this product would perform no useful function, if your computer is asleep who is going to hack into it? I can see no value in a product like this other than to disconnect your internet connection for an already disconnected computer, am I missing something here?
