A while ago I wrote about the iMONO Multi Card Reader and SIM Card Editor and how incredible it was to finally have the ability to directly back up and edit my SIM card on the go, upload ringtones and change the contacts in my contact list, and connect the card to my computer like any other storage card. Now, the folks at iMONO have developed a new and much smaller version of their card reader and SIM card editor.

The new reader/editor takes the form of a USB key and is about the same size. It continues to support USB 2.0 and SIM Editor 3.0, the software you can use to back up and modify the data on your SIM card. It's also still available in white and black, but there are some new features in the new version that might make it a worthwhile purchase if you were considering it; the new version supports USB mass storage, meaning if you insert a blank media card and then connect the whole device to your computer, you can use it like a USB storage key with however much storage you choose to insert into it. Also, the new version has a translucent rotary cover to protect the USB plug from damage.

The new version comes with a carrying case and a strap, and supports all of the card formats that the previous version did. It's a bit cheaper than its predecessor, only $19 compared to the previous version's $25. It is available now from USBGeek.com.

I'm happy having a USB sim card reader. It takes away my worries just in case my phone or sim goes bonkers, I would still have my text messages and contact list.

But this one is so cool. It's great to be able to edit the sim, too!
