wickedlaser.jpg In case you missed the memo, real lasers are now for sale on the Web. No, I'm not talking about the kind that can make a harmless red dot on someone's forehead from 50 meters away (or more). These are semi-dangerous red, green and blue lasers than can burn holes in trash bags, cut black electrical tape and even cauterize small cuts on your body.

The company is Wicked Lasers (at www.wickedlasers.com) and it's selling a whole line of hand-held lasers for as little as $99. They also sell a line of laser accessories including, natch, protective goggles, which also happen to look ultra cool. If you don't believe what you're reading check out the web site and video gallery. You can see the lasers burn through all sorts of unfortunate items.

It actually gets better. The company even sells a $95.99 "Laser Saber. This blatant Star Wars Lightsaber rip-off can supposedly "power up" and "power down", but I can't tell if a 3 foot laser beam will be visible when you turn it on. My guess is no. I think the bigger question is: How can any of this be legal? Laser-on, dude.

Why is the author so concerned about why these lasers are legal when booze and cigarettes kill tens if not hundreds of thousands more people each year? Come to think of it, I haven't heard of a single injury from these lasers, never mind a death! Ban the booze and cancer sticks -- THEN talk to me about lasers!

Laser safety is serious business. Serious and permanent eye injuries occur with some regularity despite institutionally enforced precautions in the medical setting. What an irresponsible buyer could do with these products is alarming. The ATF should regulate these sales.

We'll be getting one in to the Labs, so stay tuned to see just how powerful (and dangerous) these lasers can be!

And while we are at it, why don't we ban the weapons that are really dangerous? Guns, tazers, mace, pepper spray, knives, and so on. Lance, you are quite the idiot. I happen to be a laser enthusiast who owns several of these Wicked Lasers. I have never been hurt nor I have I hurt anyone else with my lasers. Like any other hobby, it depends upon the person who owns the laser whether it is dangerous or not. To put a broad condemnation on them in general is in my opinion...Just asinine.

Lasers don't hurt people, people with lasers hurt people. ;)

But seriously, yes these are quite dangerous in the hands of a irresponsible child, or man child. But if you ban the laser, and not take action against the person, then that solves nothing. And so far, in the 2 or so years these have been publicly available, I have heard no news stories, or anything of the sort relating to these lasers causing real damage.

There was that incident where they guy in New Jersey was shining some helicopters and planes...But that wasn't even a Wicked laser, it was a measly 5mW one. And they got the guy.

Which brings up another point, these can be dangerous in the wrong hands..but in all reality you cannot hide with a laser. If you shine a police officer, or anybody else, they immediately know where the beam came from. There is no silent attacker here. And if that does happen, then they just need to arrest that person and set a example of those who are irresponsible with lasers, not put a ban on them.

Wicked Lasers are in fact illegal per FDA standards. FDA even has a few warnings issued regarding this specific company.

Sorry. Selling these "low" power lasers to the general public is the height of irresponsibility. If these devices work as shown on the videos, then severe injuries to people will surely follow - there have been too many stories already about people aiming lasers into peoples' eyes to blind them with earlier generation laser pointers - NOW YOU MARKET "TOYS" that can actually do significantly more damage? How many punk-ass kids are going to buy these toys and hurt people with them? ENOUGH I AM SURE. Keep lasers in the hands of the military. don't market them to dumb as shit yahoos who will have the opportunity to do malicious damage with your "COOL LASERS". DAMN FOOLS!!!! ANYTHING FOR A BUCK

WickedLasers are frickin scammers!!!! If you want high powered(class 3b and a little bit of class 4 :P ) check out novalasers, optotronics, and laserglow. These are real companies with real customer support , great products that perform as advertised.

Oh and FYI, these "real lasers" have been around and available to the public for quite a while, it's nothing new, but I see lots and lots of ignorant people think that "lasers can't burn stuff, durr!!"

And just drop it with stuff like "lasers are dangerous, keep them for the military" BS ....Guns are way more dangerous, yet anyone can have a gun.

A green laser pointer from Warnlaser has the best centralized light dot and the most beautiful green

beam which can be seen, like a green sword elongated by David Copperfield, in the midst of the

firmament in the night. Comparing to the yellow, blue, red and purple laser, with noblest emerald-like

color and approximately 80 times brighter than the red laser, a Green Laser Pointer is a diamond

comparing to a stone crystal. If you have any question, please contact Warnlaser team without any

hesitation(Our email address: master@warnlaser.com).
