My friends and I call the weekly episodes of 24 "JBPH," or the Jack Bauer Power Hour. If you couldn't tell, we're huge fans of the terror-fighting action hero, and as much as we wish we were as cool as he is, the most we can do is watch with awe at the gear and style with which he beats up the bad guys. In most action and spy movies, the gear that the hero is equipped with is straight out of a sci-fi novel; insanely high tech and unfortunately not realistic, but 24 is an exception. In fact, most of the gadgetry that Jack Bauer straps on before a mission is available easily right now, from his cell phone to his preferred handgun.
Over at Uncrate, they've put together a list of some of Jack Bauer's "don't leave home without it" gear, how much they cost, and where you can buy them. While some of his equipment is naturally only for responsible adults (like his HK USP Compact 9mm pistol and his Second Chance Apex Vest and the bulletproof armor that goes inside) some of the gadgets can be enjoyed by anyone, like his messenger bag (affectionately known as the "Jack Pack") and the Motorola i880 he's using this season. (last season was the Treo 650) I've also noticed that the good guys tend to use Macs on the show and the bad guys use Windows PCs. Interesting. Well, at least with this list I can gear myself up for work the same way Jack Bauer does for fighting terrorism on television, I just can't say my job is nearly as exciting (or lethal) as his.
