Fifty-eight percent of Canadians find that porn is immoral, but that didn't stop wireless carrier Telus Mobility from offering pornography to its subscribers. When Raymond Roussin, a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vancouver discovered that the wireless carrier began this offering last month, he was outraged: "Telus has crossed the line which brings the problem of the accessibility of pornographic material further into the public realm...Given the increasing awareness about the problem of sexual addiction to pornography through Internet access, and the abuse that this perpetuates of vulnerable persons, Telus' decision is disappointing and disturbing." Apparently, Telus Mobility offers downloadable porno photos for $3 and one-to-two minute videos for $4. However, the Metro NY edition reports today that Telus has reversed their decision to sell mobile porn. A media rep for Telus explained that the company is taking advantage of an untapped market. Well, I think this market is untapped for a reason. I wouldn't want to look over at the person next to me and discover that they're watching porn! Of course, something like this would probably never happen in the U.S., although we do have our Blu-ray porn! (via CanadianChristianity.com)

Just curious why this wasn't tagged "Canada" as well as "mobile service" and "porn"? I know the concept of Canada isn't tech-y but....

Wow- that's so odd. Canada usually isn't so uptight about things like this. Then again, looks like it's a very particular group that's so uptight about it, so my guess is that the rest of Canada probably doesn't care so much.
I'm not going to get into the politics of it all, but I will say this much: the whole debate is silly. Crossing the line? You mean the line between an adult of legal age and their private purchases?

A Forrester Research report states mobile porn will be a billion dollar business in the years to come. I wonder how much revenue Telus was generating from the pics/videos?
