Can a billion Chinese people be wrong? That's certainly not what Bill Gates and company must be thinking, as they work to launch the Xbox 360 in China. According to GameDaily the Microsoft game console could make its way to Chinese gamers as early as next month.
It won't be the first console system for the Chinese, however, as Sony released the PlayStation 2 in that market three years ago, and will likely remain the main competition in the major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. Of course, there are still a couple of not so little issues that Microsoft needs to work out. The first is governmental approval, and China isn't exactly known for letting Western entertainment content in so easily. The second is piracy, which begs the question of whether game publishers will be happy to see the system "officially" arrive in China.
Microsoft's view might be a bit more focused... to moving more systems worldwide. Even if only 1 percent of the population buys an Xbox 360, that's easily another 10 million units sold. And should the 360 be a runaway hit in China, this round of the videogame console wars would certainly go to Microsoft.
