There's no denying that firefighters often put themselves in incredible amounts of danger on a daily basis. But firefighters, EMT's and police may soon have a new tool to aid them from the constant threats that come with the job with SurvivalTag.
The SurvivalTag System uses radio-frequency identification technology to keep firefighters safe, by keeping track of their position. The RFID tags would be imbedded in their uniforms and Fire Chiefs and commanders could use them if any on-scene emergency personnel were to become trapped in a dangerous situation. Then other squad members would be able to pinpoint their location and rescue them if needed. RFID LTD. is also designing and developing the system further to eventually track heart rates, respiratory developments, and skin temperature.
While I appreciate the luxury of using the E-ZPass and the Pay Pass, it's nice to see RFID technology being used in ways that could possibly save lives.

That is the first thing I've heard about RFID tags that actually excited me. I think the technology is interesting, and don't care that much about all the privacy panic attacks they seem to cause. But thus far I just haven't been intrigued by any of the uses of the technology. This is fantastic!
