kingston%20datatraveler%20secure.jpgYou may be used to USB flash drives that offer features like encryption or huge storage capacities, but Kingston's latest DataTraveler Secure Privacy Edition (DTSP) is a USB flash drive that is actually waterproof. That's right, it coforms to the standards held by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in depths of up to 4 feet. So in the even that you spill water or accidentally throw it in the tub (it could happen), you won't have to worry.

It also features a 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption, the ability to lock down after 10 intrusion attempts, and an effective password protection. The DTSP USB Flash Drive is available in capacities from 512MB to 4 GB and sells from $50 to $280.

Now THAT'S cool. :) Especially if you keep your USB drive on a lanyard or attached to a keychain, having it waterproof is a pretty cool perk. I know people who have dropped theirs in the toilet, and between wondering if it WOULD work if they could get up the nerve to fish it out, at least this could address one of those problems...

I have an older (512 -about a year old) Data Traveler which I inadvertently failed to remove before putting my jeans in the washer. No loss of data. I did have to let the USB connection dry before plugging it in. What's even dumber, I did it twice and it still works great. This thumbdrive was not advertised as waterproof, either. I don't think I would pay extra for an 'advertised' waterproof thumb drive, they appear to be waterproof already.

I bought this excelent flash drive but unfortunately too late I have found that Kingston does not support the Data Traveler on Windows 98. Alas, my computer is equipped with Windows 98. Is there any chance for remedy ? Naturally except of buing a new computer
:-). Any hint should be highly appreciated.

So it is waterproof all the time, or only when the cap is on?
