Both Jen the Weird Hunter and I received this intriguing package from Hasbro: ToothTunes is a brush for kids that is designed to help them brush longer by playing a song that lasts the recommended brushing length of 2 minutes, as they brush. (Slogan: "Music in Your Mouth.")
And don't expect to hear "Row, row, row your boat..." either. This toothbrush is kewl. Available songs when it launches in February ($9.99 including batteries) are "Let's Get It Started", Black Eyed Peas; "We Will Rock You," Queen; "Walk Away," Kelly Clarkson; and my personal favorite, "YMCA," Village People.
But how well does it really work? Click on More for the results of our Tot Tests!
Tot Tests:
"At first I was skeptical; I thought my 5-year-old would grit his teeth and run away. I was surprised to find that when the music started playing when I put the toothbrush in his mouth, he started laughing and grabbed the toothbrush from me. He was marching around the living room. His 3-year-old brother ran up and wanted a turn too. The only problem is that they get a kick out the toothbrush in their mouths, but it’s not encouraging them to brush with it. So yes, they enjoy the toothbrush and do regularly put it in their mouths, but they’re not brushing their teeth."--Richard Demler, PC Magazine's Art Director
"My 7-year old daughter Joey loves using her new Tooth Tunes. She had seen it on TV, and wanted one, but it’s “even better for real”. It works a lot better for timing her brushing sessions than the clock or the light up timed toothbrush she had to stare at to use."--Joel Santo Domingo, Lead Analyst, Desktop PCs
Our unscientific conclusion: This is fun for all kids, but only those around 7 and up will use it the way it's meant to be used. Still, for just a $10 investment, it's worth seeing if your kid will take to it.

Not a bad idea really. Anything that gets kids to want to brush more is A-OK in my book. Would be nice if they made one for adults that had built-in flash memory and a bit of rumble action. Add some candy flavored toothpaste to the mix and you sir have another(maybe 1st) reason to enjoy waking up.

Great product. $8.64 at Wallmart. I enjoy listening to KISS in the morning.
