The soul of a home audio system is often thought to be the speakers, but the heart is most certainly the receiver. Harman Kardon proves it has not just one but four very big hearts, with its recently announced receivers, including two 7.1-channel systems: the AVR 347 ($999) and AVR 247 ($549), as well as two new 5.1-channel systems: the AVR 147 ($449) and AVR 146 ($349). All four, which will be available in April, include HDMI connectivity and plenty of advanced features to appeal to casual listeners and audiophiles alike.
Most impressive, all four models feature an exclusive iPod interface, including audio and video playback and control capabilities. When used with the special Harman Kardon's The Bridge dock, users can operate their iPods via the receiver’s remote control, and even display menus on the TV or video display on the receiver’s front panel. Move over, small docking stations with tiny speakers. The iPod is finally ready for the living room and a grown-up speaker system.
