gupi.jpgI would love to have a pet, but I worry about things like leaving them alone while I head to the office every day; them getting lonely or sick; how much it would cost to feed and take care of a pet; and how I would feel if one died on me. I just don't know if I'm ready for the responsibility of owning a pet, so that's why the robot pet Gupi, the intelligent robot guinea pig, is perfect for people like me.

He's cute and fluffy like a real guinea pig, and even has different moods depending on how you treat him. If you ignore him, he'll get lonely and scared, and will run off and hide in a corner, but if you pay attention to him he'll love you, chirp happily, and stay close to you. Gupi can also hear you, and he responds to the sound of your voice. He'll come running when you call him, but if it gets too loud and he gets scared, he'll run away.

Gupi is on sale for 51.73 pounds (approx $62.91 USD); well worth the price considering you don't have to clean up after them, change cage bedding, or worry about him getting lonely when you leave the house.

The description at IWantOneOfThose.com, where you can order the Gupi, says it best: "Gupi is the ultimate kids' pet - no litter, no little 'accidents', no sawdust scattered all over the place, and when you go away on holiday he won't go and die on you. (leaving you with the cringing task of explaining how life is temporary, we all move on, and let's go and dig a hole in the back garden) At last, a pet that can withstand the rigours of child ownership."

He's supposed to be as moody and as affectionate as a real guinea pig. If you get more than one Gupi in a room, they'll play with each other and dance together, and they can sense each other's presence by broadcasting unique identification codes to one another. When Gupi gets hungry, he'll come looking for his "carrot," which is actually a special charger that he nibbles on to give him a boost of energy.
