In a further addition to the automotive ingenuity to be showcased at the CES Show, XM Satellite Radio displayed a concept vehicle with the company's latest technology. The XM "infotainment" vehicle featured the first personal weather tracking system for GPS navigation, among other innovations.
The weather system tracks specific, real-time weather conditions, not just for the general region, but for your particular route. The information is continuously updated and delivered to the navigation system via satellite. The weather technology, expected to be introduced in summer 2007, is developed by XM and its weather solutions partner Baron Services. This real-time weather service builds on the success of XM NavTraffic, the real-time traffic service introduced in fall of 2004.
Other technologies on display in XM's vehicle include in-car video, co-developed by On2 Technologies, that can receive audio and video content from the same satellites and ground repeaters that XM already owns. There is also a voice-recognition control scheme developed by VoiceBox Technologies, and parking locator technology, ParkingLink.
