aldebaran.jpg French android developer Aldebaran Robotics is giving UFO-video-like glimpses of its Project NAO Humanoid robot. Under development for nearly two years, the 22-inch bot is intended as an autonomous family companion capable of mobility, facial recognition and, if the 10 second video is to be believed, waving hello.

Other promised features include home entertainment, WiFi accessibility and rudimentary learning.

With the hardware now (at least what I can see of it in a couple of 10-second clips) built, Aldebaran execs are apparently moving onto the software phase of development and expect to ship the robot sometime later this year.

Exciting, but what's with these half-glimpses of the tiny bot? If you have something real and functioning, Aldebaran, show the whole darn thing. Otherwise, it comes off as no more believable than the latest Yetti or flying saucer movie.

Check out the short videos at Aldebaran's site.
