Binoculars have become a victim of the superzoom lens on our favorite cameras in recent years. Before we had cameras that could zoom in with almost the same focus as binoculars, it was clumsy to switch from binoculars to camera and then back again to get the perfect shot. Well, our friends over at Pro Viewer are stepping in as the middleman with the BinoCam, which gives you the zoom ability of binoculars and the functionality of a digital camera all in one.
The BinoCam can get you eight times closer to the object you are trying to capture, and you can view everything you need to see through the 1.5-inch TFT LCD screen that fits perfectly between the sights. The BinoCam offers a 5-megapixel resolution and captures AVI movie clips in full 640 x 480 for up to thirty seconds, depending on your SD memory card storage size. The BinoCam comes with its own software so you can easily transfer your pictures and movies from the gadget to your computer via USB. Unfortunately, the it only connects via USB 1.1, so your data transfer speeds will certainly not be optimal. Even worse, (now that I'm a proud MacBook owner), the BinoCam will not connect to a Mac, but will connect to pretty much every Windows iteration ever created.
The BinoCam is an introductory solution for those who don't necessarily want the best in functionality, but want the ease of carrying one device instead of two. It retails for $199.95 direct, and takes 3 AAA batteries (not included).
