The Dell XPS M1710 becomes only the second laptop manufacturer to integrate a Blu-Ray drive. And since Blu-Ray is Sony's standard, the Sony VAIO VGN-AR190G was the first and only one up till now. It's been a known fact that Dell is a strong backer of the Blu -Ray standard, so the move wasn't too surprising, and it should only be a matter of time until we start seeing Blu-Ray drives in the Apple Macbook Pro.
Overall, I thought the Blu-Ray experience was positive. Playback quality was impressive on the 1920x1200 screen, and the PowerDVD software has made monumental strides improving HD playback. I would've liked to see an HDMI port instead of the DVI-D out. The system doesn't ship with a remote, but you can order one as an option. And the M1710 doesn't have a built-in remote sensor, so you'll have to attach a USB receiver. I didn't say it was perfect. You can check out my review on PCMag's website.

Hmm....has Apple taken a side in the hi-def DVD wars? I seem to remember them siding with some consortium or other, I just can't remember which. Seems like Blu-Ray is getting much more market penetration than HD-DVD at this point...I wonder if Microsoft can counter with something other than the XBox360 add-on...

That's the third blu-ray. Acer has a blu-ray laptop out since September or October.
