The folks at Rinspeed are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary with a new "transparent" concept car. Called the eXasis, it's constructed out of translucent high-tech plastic with just a tinge of pale yellow.
With open wheels, a cigar-shaped body, and tandem seating, the eXasis's design is reminiscent of the legendary Auto Union race cars from the first half of last century. The car is powered by a 150 horsepower, supercharged two-cylinder 750-cc engine, which burns eco-friendly bio-ethanol. At only 750 kilograms (about 1650 pounds), the eXasis's power-to-weight ratio is in high-end sports car territory, so it should be a screamer.
The car will be shown for the first time at the Geneva Auto Show next March. Altogether, the eXasis's features and capabilities should make for a fun drive with the added thrill of being able to watch the road zoom under your feet through the transparent floor pan.
