If you're at all like I am, you have several devices in your home entertainment center and a remote control for all of them. I count at least five on my coffee table, and I'd love to replace them with one universal remote that can handle literally everything in my house, from the DVD player downstairs to the stereo system upstairs. Well, the
Harmon Kardon TC30 promises to do just that.
The TC30 sports an easy to use interface and color screen, not completely unlike Logitech's Harmony series of universal remotes, but combines features found in high-end remotes with the size and button layout of easier to use devices. The TC30 is completely configured using Harmon Kardon's website, and programmable with thousands of codes to control devices from DVD players to home lighting systems. Just plug the TC30 into your computer via USB, install the software, and head to Harmon Kardon's website to set up the remote.
Using the remote is easy, too. Tasks are grouped together, so you can choose tasks like "Listen to a CD" or "Watch a DVD" in order to get to the part of the interface that will control your stereo systems or DVD players, for example. The Harmon Kardon TC30 is $229.99 MSRP, but some quick searching turns up prices as low as $119.99, so shop around.
