Tire giant Pirelli has recently purchased the patent for an innovative new tire monitoring system from design and styling company Fioravanti. The system monitors tire footprints and automatically optimizes vehicle behavior, which would enable Pirelli to deliver its much-anticipated CyberTyre product to market.
CyberTyre is one of a number of new technological systems, including X-Pressure, Safety Wheel System, and CyberWheel, created with the aim of making tires more intelligent and interactive. It instantaneously measures and wirelessly transmits information about the forces regulating vehicle dynamics with miniaturized electronic sensors, using the vehicle's on-board computer to provide the driver with real-time data regarding the operational status of the tires. All the identifying information relating to the tire, from its manufacture to its performance in diverse conditions, are transmitted to and recorded by the vehicle, keeping drivers safe and informed.
Pirelli previously developed an ingenious rotating roof design for its 2001 Alfa Romeo LF concept car used in the Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica.
