wii.jpg Against my better judgment (and my wife's advice), I'm going to reveal to you all how I'm searching for a Wii online. And then, of course, one of you will beat me to an in-stock Wii and I'll continue to remain Wii-less. But hey, I'm a journalist, and it's my duty to fill you in.

Tip 1: Watch the in-stock web monitors. A hundred-and-one web apps popped up after the Wii launch that monitor some subset of online retail sites looking for in-stock Wiis. Simply load them up, and you'll see the inventory status of a few online stores. No single monitor scans the entire Wii universe, so you'll need to line up a handful of them in different browser tabs. Currently, my favorite monitors include NowInStock, XpBargains, RefreshThing.

How to: If you don't have Firefox on your system, install it. Then, download and install the ReloadEvery plug-in, which gives you the ability to automatically refresh any web page every few seconds. Finally, load up the web monitors, set Firefox to reload each every 10 seconds or so, and you're golden. Just don't ever leave your computer, or even look away for that matter.

I loved this article, but I have to admit, I don't know if I have the effort in me to keep looking for a Wii that hard before the holidays. I think everyone knows there's no chance of finding a PS3, but a Wii? I guess because it's so up in the air, it's possible.

I think I'll wait until after the holidays, when I can just stroll into a store, pick one up, and walk out. :D

I agree with Phoenix. I'm going to wait until after the holidays to get a wii for my husband. But as for finding a PS3, I feel bad for people paying tons on ebay for them. They have them in mass quantity both on line (went to a PS3 tracking site and found them) and in the stores here (NW Indiana). I have gone into Target a few times now and they have them. And my husband found the PS3 in a Walmart in Cincinnati.

ok everyone i have another solution. Rumorshave bean made of people giving new release dates for the wii. do not believe anyone they do not know. Just realize its a gamble on when a store will get a shipment of wii's. they do not know.u just have to check every single day in walmart target or ebgames. they could be instock in 5 minutes or in 5 weeks its just a gamble

Todd is right.

I got a Wii about 3-4 weeks ago. I went to several local EB games and Gamestops one day...the common answer was "We are out of stock...the best thing u can do, is call me at X time every day when we get our shipments in and ask if we got a Wii." Later that day I stopped by the local Walmart to pickup a new keyboard and saw that they had 3 Wiis in the "glass cabinet."
