Quite a few products are available today that offer movies on-the-go, and they languish in a market that has very few dedicated customers. However, no other products are offering what Archos does, and this might be just the thing to jumpstart the PMP industry.
The Archos 604 WiFi ($450) does everything you would expect from a PMP. Its 30GB hard drive can store up to 85 movies, 300,000 photos or 15,000 songs, and its 4.3-inch TFT touch screen dishes out video at 480 x 272. It plays MPEG-4 and WMV video right out of the box and will play MP3s, WMA files, and AAC music. The included Photo Viewer will show off your favorite pictures as long as they are in JPEG, BMP or PNG, and your 604 WiFi will even read PDF files. The 604 will record video in MPEG-4 with the optional DVR docking station, and will record audio through the built-in microphone.

As the name suggests, the 604 wirelessly connects to the Internet through the 802.11g band to any PC or Mac via USB, and does so with its very own Opera browser. The bright and beautiful interface gives you the option to go to your favorite site (read: Gearlog), while you listen to your favorite songs or watch your favorite movies.
Can't remember the real name of Fredo in The Godfather? Simply minimize the movie, press the Opera button and find out what that backstabbing brother's real name is in no time.
The gorgeous Archos 604 WiFi comes with headphones, a USB 2.0 cable, a DVR station adapter, a pouch and two styli so you don't have to smudge the screen with fingerprints. You can preorder the 604 WiFi for $450 direct, and it will start shipping at the end of the month.

Very very nice. I really applaud Archos pretty much owning the personal media player market: large screens, multiple playable file formats, the ability to do music, movies, and pictures, and the combination of useful wifi that can actually connect to the internet: you can't ask for too much more.
Save perhaps a larger hard drive for the price point, but it can't be perfect, can it? Either way, it's very very nice.

It does not have an FM radio. Can I stream FM from the web? Can I use any WiFi connection, such as the one at Starbucks?

EXCELLENT!
Getting closer to ideal - expand the battery, or offer an optional x2 big battery like some of the laptop guys do nowadays.
Get Seagate to give you a nice 200 GB drive in the same form factor as that 30 GB drive. Video needs more space than music.
Archos is what the iPod wishes it would grow up to be.
Archos is light years ahead of Apple and Microsoft, very impressive.

Need to know how many films, photos and songs can be stored in best mode, instead of hyping the figure as to what can be obtained in useless mode.
Require an high definition (HD) version with HDMI 1.3.
Require HD picture and sound (latter, Dolby Digital HD, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD.
Require larger hard disk drive; 250Gb and optional One Terabyte sizes (about one week's supply of recordings.
Twin Picture Tuner and larger than 4.3" TV - use Nano tube - hankerchief - technology.

I own one. Not too Great. Sure, the touchscreen and wifi is a hoot. but the battery life drains out pretty darn fast. The opera browser has no flash(though i heard that they are making software for sale). Its a bit heavy and bulky for your pocket. All Additional Harddrives used for the DVR Station are to be formatted into Fat32(most harddrives are in NTFS).
Dont wanna be a bitch, this is from my own personal experience.

I own one and although its great having all those features available, and you can connect wherever there is a signal (just like a laptop) but it has downfalls.
1. Archos charges money if you want the software to view Mpeg4 videos.
2. When on line it doesn't always view all the graphics on a page.
3. They sell the product at several stores here in Ontario Canada but they don't sell the accessories.
4. It is slow in response to each of its apps.

I think the Archos 604 is a great mobile device for watching videos or pics because of the big screen (compared to IPods screen). The Only Thing I really don't like is, that you get your device without any additional things. There is no chareger in the package,
also a real purse is given. the worst thing are the videocodecs, which you have to pay for.
But when you don't need more video codecs than preinstalled, the archos 604 is a reaaly great device.

I also own the 604 with WiFi and it's pretty cool, but I noticed that if I have downloaded lots of clips from the net, no matter what they are, my Archos restarts on it's own when I connect to my PC if I start opening those clips. The battery life is shorter than a laptop, so if you plan on watching movies while in the are, you better plan on watching 1 out of those 85 that you may have stored or bring at least 3 extra batteries. I also have that camcorder and its good.

the video codec that will allow anything to play on archos is the PocketDivXEncoder it converts any video file to play on the Archos 604
