Saab has released a new low-C02 emission vehicle, the 2.3t BioPower, which went on sale in the U.K. on November 20th. The eco-friendly BioPower engine cuts down on fossil fuel emission by up to 70 percent while delivering 14 percent more power and 11 percent more torque when running on bioethanol E85 compared to petrol. The BioPower formula allows customers to run on petrol, bioethanol E85, or any combination of the two without any added adjustment needed by the driver.
Bioethanol E85 has a higher octane rating than standard unleaded petrol. Turbocharging allows the use of a higher boost pressure and more advanced ignition timing, which gives the engine more power. The only hardware modifications necessary are more durable valves and valve seats and the use of bioethanol-compatible materials in the fuel system. The BioPower Saab goes for £23,270 (equivalent to $29,888, U.S.) and is also available in Ireland and other Nordic markets; other European countries will follow later this year. It is available in a choice of two body styles (Saloon and Estate), with manual or automatic transmission.
