2006 is shaping up to the year of not only the HDTV but the year of the 1080p HDTV. Companies including Panasonic, Samsung, and Toshiba have introduced displays with 1080p resolution, and yesterday Philips unveiled two new LCD models that will certainly turn heads. Its 47-inch 47PF9441D (shown at left) and 63-inch 63PF9631D FlatTV sets will be available in December, at $5,999 and $2,999 list, respectively.
Both sets feature dual HDMI inputs, Philips' Pixel Plus 3HD to upscale non-HD video sources such as DVD, and Virtual Dolby Digital surround sound. Six pre-set video preferences are provided to reduce the time to spend setting up the TV... so you can get to the good stuff, like watching it!

I've still got some squirreling away to do before I can run out and grab a nice big 1080p HDTV, but I'm glad they've become more common and easier to find these days, not to mention more affordable. For a long time it was bad enough that 1080p was so expensive, but now the only thing we have left to do is start prodding movie studios and such to make content that can be shown in 1080p!

Right now the 63PF9631D isn't 1080p at all on the philips website though? :|
And no new of the 47" model on the website not even google returns a single result :(
