Animated Tombstone

Looking to really scare the bejesus out of your trick or treaters this year? Then the Animated Tombstone is right up your alley. It's motion activated, so just watch as someone gets close. . .BOO! With a shriek, this unassuming tombstone opens up to reveal a skeleton with glowing eyes. Visitors will be beside themselves as the eyes flash and eerie noises are emitted. You can also activate the tombstone with a button in case you're impatient. It sells for $29.99 from Spirit Halloween--not a bad investment, although you might go deaf from the screams.

For some really bone-chilling thrills, try out the Light Up Bones Wind Chime. Made out of real human bones, these chimes light up and make bone rattling sounds when activated by motion or sound. OK, so they're not really human bones. . . But with the skull cap at the top emitting a purplish light, it will definitely get some double takes. You can get these spooky chimes from Fright Catalog for $16.99.Light Up Bones Wind Chime

Did you know that the Day of the Dead or El Dia de los Muertos is celebrated on November 1, not October 31? Although this holiday shares some similarities with Halloween including costumes and themes of death, it's actually quite a different celebration. While Halloween represents death as something to be feared, El Dia de los Muertos celebrates death. It's the biggest holiday in Mexico, with its roots in the Aztec civilization. Pan del Muerto, or bread of the dead, which can conceal a small skeleton--eek!--is often served on this day.
