They run on a rechargeable nickel-metal-hydride double-A battery; a 3-hour charge with the included adapter gives you 8 to 10 hours of colorful goodness. And ThinkGeeks claims that these plastic lovelies are dishwasher-safe, so i guess you can serve moist or gooey food in the bowl and fill the vase with water without worrying that you'll short-circuit; that wouldn't be festive.
