It's heartening to see that more and more laptop bag manufacturers are waking up to the fact that laptop bags can be stylish without losing functionality. Case in point: the ultra-stylish Soleil Laurel laptop bag ($109.99 list). With its sleek black exterior, leather trim, and metallic hardware, you'd be hard-pressed to think it was even a laptop bag in the first place.
At 16.9 by 11.8 by 4.1 inches (HWD) and 2.6 pounds, the Laurel is light enough to cart around on your busiest workday, but roomy enough to carry your life. You know what I'm talking about, ladies. As a working mom, I appreciate that it could accommodate my ThinkPad T40 laptop, with room to spare for my daily paper, folders, wallet, paperback, cell phone, even a couple of my toddler's toys. The side pockets were convenient for stashing my train pass and office ID. I especially love the fact that the top zips closed from end to end, making the bag extra secure from prying pickpockets.
The shoulder straps made it easy to carry for my walk to my office from Grand Central, and the metal feet at the base of the bag kept it from turning over when I plopped it down on the ground. While the bag's Airshield gel impact system was more than adequate for shielding my laptop from the bumps of my daily commute, I found it a pain to wedge my laptop into its tight compartment.
This laptop bag is a stylin' alternative to lugging those old-school (read: unattractive) laptop bags. I just hope the next iteration has more breathing room in the laptop compartment.--Laarni Almendrala Ragaza
