Dell E207WFPDell spokespeople were pleased as punch to show off the new 20.1" E207WFP LCD monitor that's priced to move for the entry-level, budget-minded consumer.  With a maximum resolution of 1,680x1,050 (SXGA+) and a 5-millisecond response time, the E207WFP lends itself well to gaming or simple office work (widescreens at work...mmm...so nice).  Connectors include S-Video and DVI with HDCP so you play copy-protected HD content easily.  And, the attached stand can twist and tilt so you can find the best viewing angle.

The E207WFP will be available for purchase on Dell.com on Tuesday, October 17th, for $289 and includes a three-year limited warranty.
The monitor is capable of being labeled Vista Premium, after Vista rolls out, so expect to see it bundled with other Vista Premium machines on Dell.com.  (Dell folks assured us that it will continue to sell as a standalone monitor, too.)

According to a Dell representative I spoke with today at Digital Life, the launch of this product heralds a bigger push by Dell to move widescreen monitors to the entry-level market.  Expect more products to launch soon that fall in line with this strategy.

5-ms response?! That's AMAZING. I mean, there's no doubt the 3007 and the 2407s are bigger and have the whole widescreen thing going for them, but the reason I initially bought a pair of Dell 2001fp monitors for my main computer was because I didn't really care for widescreen at the time (or having to do all the tweaky stuff to make my games look good on a widescreen display if they didn't already) and the 2001fp was cheaper than its widescreen counterpart, the 2005fpw; but the biggest problem was always having to stay on top of various dealsites to see when a bargain on the 2001fp or the 2005fpw happened to surface, or a couple of coupon codes that brought the price down dramatically enough to make it worthwhile. This, on the other hand, is killer. I mean, it's crazy cheap for that kind of response time, native resolution, and quality, and Dell's displays are definitely quality. Releasing on October 17th!? Perfect, that's my birthday! Now I just need an excuse to buy one....

This is inaccurate. The E207WFP does not come with Svideo input, and does not have the same height adjustable, swivelable stand that the 2007WFP has.

As unique as Apple's Cinema display might be in the world of 19" to 21" flat panel displays, it shares the same LG.Philips panel as the Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW. There happens to be only a single panel manufacturer capable/willing to mass produce wide screen, high resolution flat panel displays for the PC market. Since these two displays are so similar, we thought it only necessary to review both side by side. Several sources have claimed that the 2005FPW had numerous discoloration problems and generally poor image quality. Obviously, if one of our displays demonstrates imperfections, we would expect to see both displays to be flawed. However, the Dell and Apple displays utilize different backlights, so we are open to the thought that there will be some dissimilarities between the units. Let's take a closer look at our 20" displays.
