This Week on Gearlog Radio: A solitary eBook fan defends the Sony Reader to a skeptical panel; Camera Analyst Terry Sullivan explains why Foveon's new image sensor could actually deliver better pictures; we handicap Apple chances of eliminating the term "podcast." Then the show goes wild with Darth Fader Rubber Ducks and Wireless WiFi rabbits. Plus, reader mail and more.
If I were coming strictly from paper books, the reader might sound intriguing and useful as described. But most of my leisure/pleasure reading the last few years has been by PDA/PPC... backlight is useful on dim subways, night flights, and when fiance' goes to bed. I like the idea of an iPod/iTunes ecology for getting ebooks and the larger screen of the Reader must be more comfortable - BUT as one of those "geeky, early adopters" I won't spend my money on it without a light. That's not to say others won't dig it or that it won't be a big hit... Hm, when I was a kid I read with a flashlight - maybe Sony will bundle one. ;)
