My co-worker. . .Whitney. . .and I went to see Snakes on a Plane last night, and it was Snake-tastic! We were at the 10 p.m. show at the Regal Union Square movie theater, with a rowdy audience so excited to see this flick that they lined up for the "soft opening." (The movie goes into wide release today.) I was the loudest one there. It was quite an event--we got free posters, t-shirts and glowing snakes from the 8th Street Lab. There was trivia and prizes. We even got special safety instructions about what to do if Snakes on a Plane happens to you. The entry on the left is my favorite. Who knew snack trays were so versatile? Be sure to check out the full snaked-up safety chart.
But you ask, why am I you writing about this on Gearlog? Well, I'm here to tell you that in Snakes on a Plane, technology saves the day! Gadgets rule! Without giving anything away, Bluetooth and PSP (that's Sony Playstation Portable for any non-geeks who may be reading this) play a big part in saving some of the passengers from deadly snakes of all sizes. It's worth noting that this movie has the best ending ever. It will truly blow your mind. If you're a snake expert, like my co-worker . . . Arielle. . . though, you'll be very annoyed, as she was, by the film's (I called it a film!) many snake-anachronisms. So go ahead, call all your friends and urge them to see this fantastic movie, starring, Samuel L. Jackson, Nurse Hathaway, Kenan Thompson, and the guy you get if Jamie Foxx is busy. I will talk a bit about Snakes--and ducks--on the upcoming Gearlog Radio show, as well. Be sure to tune in! Do you hear hissing? I think there's something under your seat. Better check!

We saw it last night, sadly in a much much less than full theatre, but the people in it were happy enough to laugh and cringe at the right parts of the movie. We came in with little wooden snakes (the kind where you hold em by the tail and they move their bodies back and forth...a find at a dollar store!) draped around our necks and ready to have a good time. And oh boy did we. Seriously that movie was more than worth the admission price, and I'm glad we saw it. I noticed that gadgets and gear saved the day too! The PSP is an essential tool in both saving lives and cheering up children! Dell monitors were in first class! eBay is an acceptable way for FBI agents to pass the time! Handspring Treos (uh oh...using a cell phone IN FLIGHT! The FCC's gonna be mad!) are the best way to communicate visual information in a crisis! The only thing that I cringed at though-the pompous "how dare you seat me in coach" guy in a suit? He had to be using an iBook/white Macbook, didn't he? Seriously. It was great.

Sam Jackson rules, but Molly's shoot-from-the-hip style and rapier wit make this blog the snakey, slithery masterpiece that it is.
