Melitta Smart Mill & Brew Coffee MakerI'm not what you call a "coffee connoisseur", but if I was I think I'd have too much fun in the mornings with the Melitta Smart Mill & Brew Coffee Maker. What differentiates this coffee maker from the rest is the fact that it gives you real-time, region-specific weather forecasts while you're brewing a pot!

I had the chance to witness this cool coffee maker at a consumer electronics event hosted by Amazon a couple of weeks ago. On the coffee maker's LCD display, you'll see the current conditions of your area, the hi/low temperature, sunrise and sunset times, chance of precipitation, and the UV Index.

Don't speak English? The Melitta Smart Mill & Brew's interface also displays French and Spanish.

Other features include:

*Displays current time, which automatically updates for daylight savings time and after power outages

*Easy pour reservoir with large viewing window

   *Warming plate with auto shut-off

   *Made of stainless steel

   *Hidden cord storage

To bring you weather information, Melitta utilizes the MSN Direct service without the need for an outside sensor.

Catch the Melitta Smart Mill & Brew Coffee Maker, sold exclusively through Amazon.com, in November 2006 for $199.99.

Melitta makes some pretty good coffee stuff, from filters to coffeemakers, and I kind of dig this product. (The coffee they sell is pretty good, too!) But at the same time, as cool as this is, and no doubt, it's cool, it reminds me of something I heard a long time ago: "You want to invent something and make a fortune from it? Take something everyone uses already and put a clock on it! Then sell it as a NEW INVENTION!" Sounds like someone got a coffeemaker and realized that clocks already exist on them, so one-upped them and said "BRING ME THE MAGIC OF THE INTARWEB! LET THERE BE WEATHER! LET THERE BE LANGUAGES!" and that was about it. Still. Doesn't mean I probably wouldn't buy one. ;)

Looks like the Beyond coffemaker that failed in the marketplace last year. It looks the same, but the features are slightly different. The best thing about it is that you no longer need an expensive "home hub" or "icebox" to get the weather and atomic clock data.
