100_0312.JPGI opened my new copy of Wired this week -- the one with Stephen Colbert on the cover -- to find the ad you see at left, advertising Cingular's new RAZR with iTunes, otherwise known as the V3i. (Click on the ad to make it bigger.) That connected with a statement Motorola CEO Ed Zander had made on stage in Chicago last week, when he said Cingular was selling the V3i "right now."

The V3i is the long awaited upgrade to Cingular's existing RAZR. As Phone Scoop says, it has a megapixel camera, MicroSD slot and voice commands -- so it's basically a lot like Verizon's RAZR V3m, but with iTunes instead of V CAST.

There's only one problem: Cingular isn't selling this phone yet. When I asked Cingular reps about the issue, they had no comment. And if you go to the Web site mentioned in the Wired ad, the V3i is nowhere to be seen. But apparently, both Motorola and whoever writes Cingular's ad copy think Cingular is selling the V3i. Left hand, meet right hand ...

I am a sales rep with a Cingular Wireless agent and while we have flyers and posters for the V3i, we do not - nor do we know when we will - sell the V3i. I myself am eligible for an upgrade and have been waiting (im)patiently for the V3i to make it worth my while, but there has been no mention or sign of when the V3i will be available.

Cingular is selling the v3i only in some walk-in stores. You can check the Cingular forums and see that they are. The Cingular flex (read firmware) has already been extracted and uploading online. (as of August 2nd) The person in this post bought his phone and lives in the west coast. Then he dumped the MP as proof. It's here, just not where you are. Yes Cingular will have the V3i Razr, I also have been waiting, asking....and asking some more. And finally when I went into a Cingular store they told me that they are expecting it to come in about three weeks. Now I have been snooping around since March trying to figure out when the V3 upgrade would be available, they kept telling me in a month or so. So I just hope this isin't another one of those deals where it will get pushed back again. But yes it is coming!
